High School Welding Summer Camp 2025 (GMAW, GTAW, + SMAW)

Camp will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 4 weeks - a total of 48 hours combined curriculum and hands-on training.

Two sessions are available to choose from: MORNING SESSION from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM or AFTERNOON SESSION from 1:00-5:00 PM.

Open to HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ages 14-19 years of age. Public, private, or home school students are welcome. This is appropriate for
students wanting to improve their welding skills or for students brand new to the trade. No experience is needed.

Student Projects: each week students will take home their project utilizing each of the welding techniques covered in this camp.

Topics Covered Include:

  • WELDING SAFETY: creating a safe work environment is necessary prior to performing any welding operation. Safety is our #1 priority and we take every precaution necessary to ensure a safe and successful experience.
  • GMAW (MIG) WELDING: Gas Metal Arc Welding or Wire Feed Welding, this is a versatile welding process that is relatively easy to learn. A MIG system includes a constant voltage welding power source, a wire feeder, torch, shielding gas, gas regulator, and welding wire.
  • GTAW (TIG) WELDING: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, this is a welding process that utilizes a non-consumable Tungsten electrode to create an electric arc. TIG is capable of precise, high-quality welds.
  • SMAW (STICK) WELDING: Shield Metal Arc Welding, this is an electric arc process that uses a consumable flux-coated rod as the electrode and the filler metal. Required equipment includes a constant-current welding power source electrode cable with electrode holder and ground cable with ground clamp.
  • PLASMA ARC CUTTING: a cutting process that uses an arc and high-velocity, ionized gas coming through a constricting nozzle to cut all metals.
  • Additional Topics will be discussed as time allows.
  • Parents are required to sign a liability waiver for their student prior to the first day of camp: sign here
  • Required Student Attire: full-length jeans, short-sleeved T-shirt, work boots. For the safety of the student, jeans should not have holes or rips in them, should cover their entire leg, and overlap with their shoes. Work boots are to cover the entire foot. All clothing should be nonflammable.
  • Students should bring a notebook, pen/ pencil, and water bottle with them to every class.
