SMAW (STICK) welding is a dependable and versatile welding process widely used in construction, structural steel fabrication, equipment repair, maintenance, and outdoor projects. During this single-session, hands-on class, you'll learn how to safely set up and operate a STICK welder, understand machine settings, select the appropriate electrode, and develop proper arc control and welding techniques. With guidance from an experienced instructor, you'll practice striking an arc and creating strong, consistent welds on steel. You'll gain practical experience, build confidence with this welding process, and leave with a solid foundation to continue developing your stick welding skills.

Please note:

  • All safety equipment, tools, and materials are included.
  • Lunch, snacks, & beverages are provided. Please contact us immediately if you have any dietary allergies or restrictions. Students are welcome to bring their own refreshments if preferred.

Students must be at least 16 years of age to participate in most courses and must have a signed waiver by a parent or legal guardian prior to the start of the class.

For students ages 13 – 15 years old, please contact us at 585-349-7110 to discuss class opportunities.

Most courses are not appropriate for students ages 12 years old and younger.

Safety is our number one concern at Rochester Arc + Flame Center. Please contact us at 585-349-7110 before registering for classes., If you have any concerns pertaining to your hearing, vision, hand dexterity, or mental health, or any other disability that would impact your ability to participate in class.

  • Boots or leather shoes that cover the entire foot
  • Full length jeans that cover the entire leg and ankle (no rips or holes)
  • T-shirt (cotton or nonflammable material)

For your safety, failure to comply with this attire may result in being unable to participate in the class. Thank you for your cooperation & understanding!

  • No refunds or credits are provided to students who cancel within 48 hours of their class or who are a no call/ no show
  • 14 or more days’ notice of the class date: Option of a refund (minus a $20 processing fee) or class credit for the full amount
  • 2 – 13 days’ notice of the class date: Class credit for the full amount
  • Less than 2 days’ notice of the class date: No refund and no class credit
