Math and Measurements Night Course for Welding

This class is intended to provide support and additional training for students enrolled in our Industry Certificate Welding & Fabrication Program. This includes candidates still in the admissions process AND/ OR already accepted students. With that said, all interested students are welcome to enroll.

Mathematics comes into play regardless of the industry or discipline.  We need to have a fundamental understanding of mathematical computations not just for reading blueprints, job orders or during layout but also when we are welding and making technique adjustments for different joints.

Without math, the types and complexity of welding projects that we can complete independently will be limited, thereby limiting our employment options. Nearly every project will require that we can read plans, layout parts (both for cutting and placement) and that those parts have been both measured and placed accurately. If we can’t do this, we could end up wasting an employer’s time and materials and quickly be out of a job.

There are two main areas of math that are crucial for welders: arithmetic and geometry.  This course reinforces basic arithmetic as used in real world examples and problems from the welding and fabrication industry. It will also cover common measurement tools and how to use them.  The companion class, Basic Drawing and Layout, will cover geometry.

Note that this is not the same high school math class that most of us slept through, we will be showing you real world application of shop math to help reinforce the skills needed for the Career Welding and Fabrication Program.
