Glass Flameworking Teen Summer Camp 2023
Have you ever wanted to learn how to create one-of-a-kind glass art? Join us for the first Glass Flameworking Teen Summer Camp at the Rochester Arc + Flame Center!
Open to teens ages 15 and up, this hands-on, 2-week summer program will give students an opportunity to work with two different types of glass while learning the fundamentals of flameworking. Led by our experienced and dedicated faculty, students will learn to heat and shape molten glass using gravity, hand movements and a variety of specialized tools.
Week one will focus on working with Italian soft glass to create beads. Students will learn how to make an assortment of beads in various shapes, as well as different ways to apply surface decoration using dots, frits, and simple encasement.
During the second week, we will move on to working with borosilicate glass. Students will learn the difference between these two types of glass along with different techniques they can use to manipulate them. Students will make a variety of pendants that could include a teardrop, leaves and hearts.
Students will also have free time during class to practice their newly learned techniques. Each day they will be able to bring home projects from the previous day.
Camp will meet three days a week and take place in our spacious, well-equipped, and climate-controlled studio. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. A morning session (9:00am-12:00pm) and an afternoon session (2:00pm-5:00pm) are available. Each camp is limited to 8 teens, and a minimum of 3 students is required to run.

- July 2023 Morning Camp: Jul. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 (Tues.-Thurs., 9am-12N)
- July 2023 Afternoon Camp: Jul. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 (Tues.-Thurs., 2pm-5pm)

- All materials and safety equipment included
- Enrollment: 3 to 8 students
- Open to teens ages 15 and up

Students must be AT LEAST 16-years of age to attend class unless otherwise noted (ie: Fusing Tike, Teen and Creative Kids Classes) OR approval from Department Director.
Please make sure to wear close-toed sneakers or boots, jeans and a cotton t-shirt. Do NOT wear flip-flops, open toed shoes, shorts, skirts, or highly flammable clothing.
