The tomahawk is a very versatile tool, it has been consistently used for self-defense, warfare, camping, excavation and other utility applications. Under the guidance of Journeyman Smith Butch Sheely this class will give you the opportunity to create one of your very own.
In this five-day class students will make their own tomahawk and belt axe. All aspects of axe making will be covered, from forging the blank to shaping, then heat treating, grinding and polishing, making and fitting a wooden handle and finally, sharpening - with attention given to the design and geometry of these kinds of axes. Come learn how to forge, grind and heat treat a wrapped eye tomahawk and a hammer poll belt axe.
NOTE: This class is intended as an intermediate bladesmithing class.
