Project Descriptions:

  • Rustic Folders (Stock Removal): Learn to create a wonderful conversation piece and functional tool. In this class we will cover the basics of designing and building a simple friction folding knife. Students will start by learning about appropriate steels and how to process them to bring out the desired qualities such as durability, edge retention, and sharpen-ability. Students will then choose a small piece of antler or other found material and design a blade to fit it. After prepping the handle material students will use the stock removal method to create a blade to fit their design. The basics of heat treating will be covered again prior to assembly of the knife. For those who have their own or took the Damascus Billet workshop you can bring that in to use. Material should be between 1/8" and 3/16" thick and at least 3/4" to 1" wide.

(NOTE: Above are examples of various topics offered, however each class focuses on only one. The topic of each class is listed with the corresponding date.)

Arc + Flame Bladesmithing Workshops are a keen way to learn and explore creating knives. Our experienced instructors will use a combination of lecture, demonstration and hands-on instruction at the forge to enhance your learning experience.
