(Update as of 10/17/20) Greats news! We received notification from New York State that indoor arts and education categorized businesses are FINALLY able to re-open to the general public! Arc + Flame is evaluating the fine details and will act accordingly. Stay tuned for more announcements during the week! Earlier this month, Arc + Flame postponed all classes through 2020. We will evaluate the new mandates and provide details on re-opening soon. Our center is open for retail and walk-in customers on Monday 9am-5pm, Wednesday 10AM-6PM, and Friday 9am-5pm.

Our Fall 2020 Welding & Fabrication Industry Certificate Program through Monroe Community College is currently able to run because of direct partnership with higher education [based on NYS Phase 4 COVID guidelines]. The same goes for our collegiate welding classes for engineering students through Rochester Institute of Technology and machining and HVAC students through Monroe Community College.

Project Descriptions:

  • Intro to Bezel Settings with Mark ThoneMake your own jewelry incorporating a stone to add color and style.  Each person will use their hands to build a setting, as well as move the metal to secure the stone in place.  The class project will be a pendant, but students are open to make their own designs. (Experience with prior jewelry classes or hand tools will be beneficial, but not required)
  • Stacked Rings with Mark ThoneCome and be introduced to some fundamentals of jewelry making. Students will bend, hammer, and solder copper or silver to create a series of unique stacking rings. (Experience with prior jewelry classes or hand tools will be beneficial, but not required)

    Metalsmithing Workshops are an excellent way to learn and explore metalsmithing. Our experienced instructors will use a combination of lecture, demonstration and hands-on instruction to enhance your learning experience. No prior experience or training is needed to attend. While the curriculum is designed for the novice, anyone interested in refining their jewelry making techniques could benefit from these classes. Workshops do not need to be taken in a specific order, and student projects will vary each class. If students have a specific project in mind they should email the instructor for pre-approval. 

    NOTE: Metalsmithed Jewelry Classes are interactive and involve physical activity with emphasis on hand eye coordination. Please make sure to wear close-toed sneakers or boots, jeans and a cotton t-shirt. Do NOT wear flip-flops, open toed shoes or highly flammable clothing.     Instructors:

    Mark Thone: Owner of Heart on Sleeve, Mark brings a unique background of artistic endeavors to all of his classes here at Arc + Flame. Mark is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and has over a decade's worth of experience in metalsmithing. Mark joined the Arc + Flame team in the Fall of 2017.
