Well-made camp knives can be so important when you're out in the woods. They are much more than just a useful tool, and this class will give you the opportunity to create one of your very own.
Taught by Joel Worley, this five-day class will see students make their own camp knives from high carbon steel. All aspects of bladesmithing will be covered, from forging the blade to shaping, then heat treating, grinding and polishing, making and fitting a wooden handle and finally, sharpening - with very special attention given to the design and geometry of this kind of knife. This class is intended as an introductory bladesmithing class, but some forging experience is helpful and a Tapering class is a prerequisite.
An American Bladesmith Society (ABS) Journeyman Smith and a board member of Southern Ohio Forge & Anvil (SOFA), Joel lives in northwest Ohio and has been making knives for 12 years. He has demonstrated Damascus and blade forging at the Mid America ABS Hammer-In and teaches several bladesmithing classes yearly both at SOFA and at his personal shop.
NOTE: Bladesmithing Classes are very interactive and involve significant
physical activity. Please make sure to wear close-toed sneakers or boots, jeans

experience for all of our students!
